If we talked about blogs as a way of acquiring and sharing knowledge, we can not forget the wikis. We've all heard about the Wiki par excellence: Wikipedia.

If we talked about blogs as a way of acquiring and sharing knowledge, we can not forget the wikis. We've all heard about the Wiki par excellence: Wikipedia.
The wikis have helped us in more than one project, we have simplified and clarified many things. They are a very useful tool for getting data, but do not stay there alone.
But really what is a wiki?
Wiki is the name that the programmer of Oregon, Ward Cunningham, chose for his invention, in 1994: a system for creating, sharing and reviewing information on the web, so easy and automatic.
Allows you to create web pages quickly and efficiently, also offers great freedom to users, even those users who do not have much knowledge of computers and programming, allows a simple way to include text, hypertext, digital documents, links and more.
The main usefulness of a wiki is that it allows creating and improving pages instantly, giving great freedom to the user, and through a very simple interface. So simple that, in many cases, even a child can use.
Given the great speed with which updates the content, the word "wiki" (which means quick in Hawaiian) takes its full meaning.
The proceeds from the wikis are huge and every day their success is more remarkable.
Everybody wants to create and Web 2.0 and collaborative spirit in the wikis have their greatest ally. From the companies, universities and schools, wikis have become a way of encouraging and sharing, creating knowledge through participation.
The companies have decided to use it as a tool to convert the information that is not formally a worker used after the daily practice of its use in formal training that can facilitate the task to other employees.
But wikis are not limited to that. Now new projects are being made in training through them. From college to high schools, many teachers have decided to use wikis as a means to instill in their students participation, encourage collective learning and developing an educational project of great value. In addition, many of these wikis, especially those used in very specific fields, give added value to the institution that has been created, giving them prestige and making them more important as knowledge centers.
To create a Wiki, one can avail itself of a tool or a supplier type Wikispaces. Its use is simple and, moreover, for use as an educational tool, there are different variants of users and contributors, making it completely adaptable to different needs that can be created in use between students and teachers:
1. Public: viewed and edited around the world
2. Protected: all over the world viewed and edited only by members of the space.
3. Private viewed and edited only by members of the space
The potential uses in education are broad: from the preparation of presentations, leaving the information in the information in the Wiki available to peers and teachers, the Wiki as a glossary of subject or theme as the basis for collaborative knowledge, even as personal portfolios students and teachers, coordinating events through the web or project management at the time ...
All these utilities serve as a stimulus to both the teacher and the pupil as it allows the interrelationship and dynamic partnership, plus the ability to share ideas, discuss and make learning something alive, teaching learning to learn and not just pure knowledge.
